how much i've paid for our lisbon trip

Usually you don't talk about money in public... but here I am, showing you that traveling can cost just as much as your new pair of sneakers for the upcoming spring! :)

It goes without saying that finding the perfect present can sometimes be quite challenging. But thanks to my new shopping behavior it has actually became less complicated for me. Since I'm avoiding to buy useless stuff, I'm an even bigger fan of non-materialistic gifts. Just like this city break to Lisbon for example! Even though I had to pay twice as much, I have to admit that this trip was a gift to myself as well ;)

How to get there
Here's my first advice: when it comes to buying (or booking) presents, I'm an early bird! So, I've already started to plan our journey back in August - four months before christmas.

For me a trip depends very much on the how to get there. So it often starts with one of my favorite activities: surfing on the websites of some low cost airlines. There you'll often find a rubric called "Fare Finder" where you can search for the lowest prices. It's better to be flexible in terms of your time, but even better in terms of the destination!

What I've paid for the flights:

  • Mon, 16. Jan '17, Frankfurt (Hahn) to Lisbon
Fri, 20. Jan '17, Lisbon to Frankfurt (Hahn)
  • 49,98 € per person via Ryanair
  • 20 € per person for the airport shuttle bus

Now that you've found the perfect flights you're ready to book them, but don't forget this one essential thing: to check if there's a cheap Airbnb offer (or hotel) available which fits your desires :)

Where to stay
The choice of Airbnb apartments is much bigger if you don't wait until one week before your departure!

Our flat was very well located in the Bairro Alto of Lisbon, a historic district where you can find a lot of bars (it's the nightlife area of Lisbon, but nevertheless it was really calm). Not only for the price and the perfect size I would recommend this apartment to everybody, but also for its history: as our host Miguel told us, the building is one of the few which survived the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. It's older than 300 years and if walls could speak...

What I've paid for our airbnb flat:

  • 26 € per night + 20 € additional fees equals 124 € for four nights
  • the apartment we stayed in - click here

In total I've only paid 243,96 € for our five days journey to Lisbon which means 121,98 € per person! So, ask yourself, would you rather buy some Nike Air Huarache Run Sneaker or go on a five day trip?
