Even though Carnival is a big thing
in Germany, I'm not really into it. I actually wonder why, because
when it comes to disguises, collecting sweets (which is a traditional
thing over here) and confetti I'm the first one who's dressed like a
cat with my pockets full of lollipops. :D
Nevertheless, since a few years, I try
to avoid the streets when there takes place the annual carnival
parade and rather stay at home until everything's over. But this year, I had practically no
choice because I wasn't prepared to this!
On this sunday morning, we've taken the
Vaporetto from our hotel which was bringing us to the city just
like the other day. As we've passed the Piazza San Marco I was
spotting a striking number of colorful boats in front of the Santa
Maria della Salute on the Canal Grande. It took me some time to
realize: it's a carnival parade just on the water! I've never seen
such an unique scenery! There was music everywhere and every boat had
it's own theme: a dancing couple, an entire band, some
flamingos, of course some traditional disguised people and more...
And now guess what? After this
surprising event (I had no idea that Carnival starts more than one
week before the big opening), I definitely changed my opinion about it! :D
I'm totally into Carnival now – so, at least if it involves water,
boats and some of these beautiful masks...
